ONLINE: Forbidden Fruit: Stepping into Kink Positivity with Dolly Diatima

October 9 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
An image of handcuffs against a red background.

Once condemned as madness, now simply tolerated as a “preference,” kink has long existed at the edges of medicine and morality. But what if your desires aren’t problems to be solved? What if they aren’t just something to be tolerated? What if instead they are something far more radical, a different way of touching the world…and being touched by the world.

This class invites you to step into the dungeon, not as punishment but as a possibility, a site of transformation. Here we will trace kink’s origins as 19th century medical madness and discuss how the urge to diagnose desire gave way to the concept of perversion. We’ll watch how this old way of thinking still haunts our society today and elaborate on how kink has survived, adapted, and seduced its way into the present. Then we’ll turn the whip around, because sometimes theory likes to bottom.

Using easy to understand philosophical frameworks like virtue and care ethics, we’ll explore how the erotic dance of dominance and submission can rewrite morality itself. Because the moment you embrace pain as pleasure, control as connection, and power as a way to play, your desire becomes the blueprint for a better world.

So come ready to think, to ache, to unlearn, we’re about to make philosophy beg for more. Think of it as intellectual aftercare, for you and for the world.

INSTRUCTOR:

Dolly Diatima is a Persian American professional dominatrix, writer, fetish model, and lifestyle kinkster. As a nonbinary and neurodivergent sex worker on the ace spectrum, they offer a unique perspective into kink and sexuality which they work to bring into their sessions as a domme as well as into their writings and classes. They recently earned a BA in Philosophy and can often be found discussing the intersection of kink and philosophical concepts on their blog. In their spare time they enjoy drawing in the pop surrealism style, watching extreme horror films, and collecting vintage fashion. They reside in the San Francisco Bay Area with their big beautiful tuxedo cat, Ligeia.
