Trauma informs how we move through the world and within our relationships\, including D/s. Trauma response in submission is not a failure of submission; they’re pieces of us that have allowed us to survive. However\, when they show up inside a D/s dynamic\, they can get in the way of a grounded & chosen submission. \nThis interactive discussion asks how you tell the difference. Not just intellectually\, but in your body\, the moment\, and in the relationship. We’ll look at how nervous system activation shapes response\, and why a conditioned pattern can feel indistinguishable from a chosen one. \nWe’ll build language for what’s actually happening. We’ll look at what belongs to trauma\, to desire\, and what happens when the two have been living in the same room so long you’ve stopped noticing. \nThe frame we’ll return to the idea that submission is not the abandonment of the self. Ultimately\, protocol is all about creating adjustable\, adaptable guidelines that feed the dynamic and enhance D/s headspace. You’ll come away from this discussion with tools and structure to elevate your protocol in any situation. \nPRESENTER: \nSINCLAIR SEXSMITH (they/them) is a queer trans butch\, a leather dominant\, and a writer\, focusing on individual\, interpersonal\, and institutional systems of power. They study dominance and submission\, social & restorative justice\, the energetic body\, trauma\, and transformation. They have been in the kink communities since 1999\, and orchestrate transformative kink scenes through written erotica and ritual practice. They actively explore the philosophies of power exchange and the practicalities of sustainable\, long term D/s. As a leather community member\, titleholder\, and organizer\, Sinclair has presented and performed 200+ times at 75+ venues\, including International Ms. Leather\, Dark Odyssey\, SXSW\, Harvard\, and Oz Kink Fest. Their short story collection\, Sweet & Rough: Queer Kink Erotica\, was a 2016 finalist for a Lambda Literary Award\, and they have edited 7 queer erotica anthologies; their latest book is Daddy4Daddy: Queer Kink Erotica.
