Some leave a scene feeling steadier\, while others feel more shaken\, largely because no one ever taught them how to name the processes they just went through. People have been working through difficult emotions in kink for a long time\, and research is only now beginning to catch up. \nThis class brings together community insight and current research tidbits to offer a clearer picture of the patterns\, mechanics\, and meanings people often find in trauma play. Without idealizing or pathologizing the practice\, it provides a space to look closely at something many people know intimately and want to finally understand. Join us for a kinky deep-dive\, with plenty of time for questions and chit-chat! \nPRESENTER: \nAidan Sunassee (he/him) is a certified sexologist\, educator\, researcher\, and active member of the kink community. His facilitation style is trauma-aware\, grounded in inclusive practices\, and informed by both personal experience and academic research. He is dedicated to bridging the gap between academic knowledge and lived experience\, creating spaces where community voices are centered\, respected\, and empowered. Aidan is affiliated with the APA Division 44 Taskforce on Kink and BDSM\, serves on the board and research team of TASHRA\, and teaches with the Center for Positive Sexuality. His independent research explores how pleasure and power exchange intersect with healing in kink spaces and dynamics. SUMMARY:ONLINE: From Harm to Healing: A Guide to Community Accountability with Adam and Ash of Consent Academy
DESCRIPTION:Consent incidents and violations happen. When they do it creates ripples through the lives of the people involved and the community as a whole. Sometimes these are handled well. Sometimes they’re not\, which frequently leads to more harm. \nJoin us for a look at a new way to deal with consent violations that works to support the person harmed\, foster accountability for the person who did the harm\, and manage the response for the community at large–including transforming the conditions that allowed harm to arise. \nConsent Academy is an educational collective founded in 2016 in Seattle\, WA\, currently with staff and volunteers all over the world. We believe consent is a part of everyday life\, and its practice builds stronger\, safer\, and more connected communities. Our approach incorporates disciplines of psychology\, sociology\, public health\, psychotherapy\, and personal coaching to create a systemic view of how consent impacts everyone\, from the bedroom to the boardroom. \nINSTRUCTORS: \nAdam is a community organizer\, mediator\, conflict transformation facilitator\, kink and consent educator\, and ongoing learner. Their passions lie at the intersections of disability justice\, neurodivergence accessibility\, trauma-informed care\, consent\, embodied somatics\, harm reduction\, and systems transformation. They desire to help people relate in safer\, skillful ways that are trauma-\, power-\, and risk-informed. Adam is an educator with several groups including The Consent Academy\, advocating for consent from the individual level to the systemic. They do consent and accountability work in many contexts and community spaces\, from organizing spaces to the sex+ world. Adam sees this work as intersectional\, directly connected to the better\, more liberatory world they want to live in. \nAsha Lerae has been a part of Consent Academy since 2018\, teaching established curriculum\, creating new workshops\, facilitating discussion groups\, and acting as a consent advocate and consultant. She became Co-director of Consent Academy in January\, 2022. She is passionate about consent education as a way to reduce trauma\, promote pleasure and eroticism\, support accountability\, and foster cultural change that balances autonomy with responsibility.
