SUMMARY:ONLINE: Tied and True: Introduction to Rope Bondage with SuspendDisbelief
DESCRIPTION:This 101-level course is aimed toward anybody who has barely touched rope but wants to\, who would like a refresher\, or who\, much like the presenter\, was repeatedly betrayed by their neurodivergence while trying to learn rope and would benefit from novel ways to look at the basics. It provides opportunities to learn basic risk awareness\, pros and cons of rope materials\, and building blocks such as single column knots and connecting rope. \nThis class in particular aims to provide a “grab-bag” of several ways to achieve each step\, allowing students to pick what works for them from both topping and bottoming perspectives. \nIf you have at least one 24-30ft length of rope and a cutting tool\, please have them handy. You can bring but do not need a partner for this class. We will work under the philosophy that there is no “one true way” you must perfectly carry out\, but a few tips can help keep beginners safer. \nPRESENTER: \nSuspendDisbelief (she/her) is a queer\, non-monogamous power exchange and sadomasochism nerd. Her hobby of choice has been getting hurt in public since 2017\, but she has been fantasizing about powerlessness and crushing on former boy scouts exclusively for their knowledge of knots for far longer than that. On top of bottoming for power exchange and physical+emotional sadism\, she started tying herself in 2019 and swiftly snowballed down the pipeline toward rope topping. SUMMARY:ONLINE: Consent\, Accountability\, and Neurodivergence with Adam
DESCRIPTION:How does neurodivergence affect consent mistakes\, incidents\, and violations? How does it affect boundaries\, grappling with hurt and harm (and discerning between the two)\, and accountability at the personal\, interpersonal\, and community levels? \nIn this participatory workshop\, we will dive into these questions with case studies and real-life examples. We’ll look through a trauma- and disability justice-informed lens\, and talk about common patterns\, subjective interpretations\, ascriptions\, and communication–based on neurotypes\, socialization\, and lived experience. There will be opportunities for community members to share their experiences. \nINSTRUCTOR: \nAdam is a community organizer\, mediator\, consent educator\, and ongoing learner. Their passions lie at the intersections of disability justice\, trauma-informed care\, consent\, embodied somatics\, and responses to and prevention of harm – including transformative justice and community accountability. They desire to help people play and communicate in safer\, skillful ways that are trauma-\, power-\, and risk-informed. Adam is an educator with several groups including The Consent Academy advocating for consent from the individual level to the systemic.
